About Tagle
Jay Tagle is a master of the flame, with three decades of experience crafting the finest functional glass pieces in the game. The Austin, Texas native got his start back in '93, cutting and polishing components for production pieces before gradually working his way up to more creative endeavors. These days, Tagle is a specialist in glass production, but he's not afraid to let his creative juices flow and make art on the fly.
When it comes to inspiration, Tagle takes cues from his fellow artists, but he's also driven by being a good dad, husband, and provider. Quality, consistency, and durability are the hallmarks of his work, and his flared feet water pipes are instantly recognizable. Tagle has honed his craft through years of attending classes and learning from his peers, including the likes of Texas Hot Glass, Mike Howard, Charli Glass, Steve Sizelove, Banjo, Buck, and Darby.
Tagle currently works out of his home shop, where he's free to create without the distractions of a community space. He's collaborated with Texas Hot Glass in the past, and has demoed at the Armadillo Art Glass Initiative. When it comes to his creative process, ideas often come to him when his hands are full, and he enjoys bouncing ideas off other artists to see what they can come up with.
While Tagle hasn't received any awards or recognition for his work just yet, he's content to keep honing his craft and pursuing his dream. He advises aspiring glass artists to get their fundamentals down, work hard, and stay humble. As for his future in the industry, Tagle sees himself creating more creative pieces and fewer cookie-cutter production pieces in the next five years.
