Born into the world of glass artistry, I trace my beginnings back to my father, a passionate glass blower. His stories and aspirations resonated with me, and, upon finding myself at a crossroads after being laid off, I cashed in my 401k, using a part of it to embark on my own glass adventure.

With over 11 years in the field since 2012, my expertise has grown, allowing me to carve out a distinct style. Techniques like latticino coil pot, inside-out latticino, fume colors, and frit variations frequently grace my creations. My work is deeply rooted in the psychedelic exploration of the mind, universe, and spirituality. Each piece isn't merely a display of technique but an invitation for the viewer to form a personal bond, to delve deeper.

Though lacking a formal education in glass art, my skills have been honed over the years through invaluable experiences. I've been fortunate to work alongside and learn from notable glass artists such as James McKulik, @langerglass, @shaggyglass, Oscar Jones, Damon Holms, gwhiz glass, boroloco, and others. My initial guidance came during my first year, followed by a transformative second year in Pennsylvania with a seasoned 30-year glass blower. In my third year, a move to Texas further refined my craft, directing me towards a personalized path.

Adams, Wisconsin, a town of fewer than 2000 souls, is where I currently reside. This quiet, secluded setting fuels my creativity, allowing me to focus deeply on my work with minimal distractions.

While many artists boast collaborative pieces, my portfolio is a testament to a solo journey. My creative process leans heavily towards a production-industrial approach. While methodical and machine-like in execution, I cherish moments of free-form sculpting and creation, picking colors and formats and letting the piece evolve organically.

A significant project on my horizon is setting up a dedicated workspace in my garage, further cementing my commitment to the craft. If I were to offer advice to budding glass artists, it would be unbridled commitment. Immerse yourself fully, continually prep and refine, collaborate, and never let setbacks deter your passion.

In the future, I envisage myself as a full-time, successful glass blower, engaged in the craft until I'm physically unable. You can follow my journey and explore my creations on Instagram at @jmk_glass.
